The search for talents for promising young Vietnamese artists of Viet Art Today came to an end tonight, 26/02/2017, with an award gala at Park Hyatt Saigon. Throughout this journey, the organizers received 161 applications, chose the top 20 artists, and on the award night, discovered the 5 most talented young artists to received the most prestigious awards. The winning artists made their mark with originality and creative materials, displaying the country’s unique art scene, as well as the talents and passion of the artists.
The first prize was awarded to artist Nguyen Minh Nam with a series of oil on canvas, expressing the traditional and modern culture of Vietnam. With this prize, the artist has been awarded a 100 million-dong cash prize, as well as a trip to an Art Fair in Singapore, and most importantly, an exclusive contract with the main sponsor of the competition, Galerie Nguyen.
The second prize was awarded to an artist who specializes in steel-pen ink drawings of the mystics of the spiritual world – artist Nguyen Duc Hung, with a prize valued at 1,6 billion dong, which includes a cash prize, a trip to an Art Fair in Singapore, and an exclusive 5-year contract with the main sponsor of the competition, Galerie Nguyen.
The third prize belonged to the only female artist selected into the top 20 finalists, who demonstrated her talents through a series of delicate silk paintings – artist Nguyen Thi Hoang Minh. This prize was valued at 1,1 billion dong, which includes a cash prize, a trip to an Art Fair in Singapore, and an exclusive, 5-year contract with the main sponsor of the compeition, Galerie Nguyen.
The fourth and fifth prizes have been awarded to artist Nguyen Thai Thang and artist Vo Thanh Than.
All prizes awarded in the Viet Art Today Competition were valued at 5 billion dong in total.
The competition was not only to find young, new talents, but also to direct towards the long-term professionalism of the artists, creating the best environment for artists to express their skills and dedicate themselves to their passion. They will be able to live and push the limits on their creative pathways, as well as given the opportunity to step onto the world’s stage.
